Olive garden has to be the best Italian restaurant that I have ever been to. The food is fantastic. There is a long wait, but it is definitely worth it.

Olive Garden is Olive Garden. Tasty (addictive) breadsticks, endless salad (or soup if you're a soup kind of person). Mixed grill with perfectly grilled potatoes crisp on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. Zucchini and squash a tad bitter but something that I've noticed is the standard for these veggies on the East coast of the US. The chicken and beef are perfectly juicy and tender. Maybe it's due to being a football weekend, maybe it's standard but both Thursday and Friday night it looked extremely busy with a line out the door. I walked in by myself on the Friday night and told the wait was 70-85 minutes for a single person. Or I could go sit at the bar. I sat at the bar because I was tired, hungry, and didn't want to try to find anything else at that time of night. Service was decent considering the bartender was my server and bartending for everyone making mixed drinks and balancing serving the people sitting at the bar. Kudos to that guy. The service rates a 4, and the food rates a 3.5, but the overall price, and experience loud, chilly, and rushed just wasn't something I would seek out again at this establishment.

Olive Garden is absolutely delicious. I am a definite fan of pasta and this place hits the spot!

  • Viv H.

I went to this place with my family the other night for the very first time because the pasta in the CM looked really nice..... but as soon as I had my first bite, I knew I wouldn't come back! The pasta was just way too soft! After all, it's just a family restaurant.

2 for $25 is a good deal! Love the shrimp pasta

Variety of new menu items from appetizers to deserts. Great service. Wifi was difficult to connect to so I connected to the nearby Max and Erma's. Quiet booth areas for a more intimate experience.

Noah is a great server! They have an elegant, upscale atmosphere excellent for everybody who wants to come in! I personally enjoy the shrimp scampi appetizer. It's fried, great for flavor, and also not filling! The breadsticks are superb!

Excellent! My husband and I had spaghetti with meat sauce and five cheese marinara sauce ravioli dishes. We had soup, salad and chocolate mousse cake (it was a bit small for $4.99). We liked the place and food.

We were a party of five and arrived at 6:00 pm on a Sunday. We were told 30 minutes but were seated in about 20. I was disappointed to learn that the up-charge for salmon on a Caesar salad was $7.49. Given that the salad comes with grilled chicken, this was outrageous. I complained to our server, Sebastian, who warned me when I ordered that it might be a high up-charge but he would see what he could do. He sent over the manager, Rob, who only charged me the $7.49, which was less than the menu price for the Caesar with chicken. I was pleased with that. The salad itself was fine. The dressing had no taste. The salmon was nicely prepared and the lettuce was fresh. The service was better than expected for an Olive Garden.

Really good. Me and my husband are huge fan of their salmon bruschetta and chicken marsala. The ambience is pretty good too. On weekend it's very crowded and the wait line could go from 30-45 mins.

You can't beat the to-go service you at this location. I'm a frequent lunchtime visitor and almost always dealing w/ the to-go staff. Everybody is extremely friendly and helpful. They respect the fact that the time we have is short and on the outside chance you do have to wait a few minutes, they bend over backward to make it right.

This is a great place to get carry out from. If you dine in, it's nothing special. The service on the restaurant side is mediocre; however, the bar staff is excellent. The zuppa soup is outstanding. After several poor service experiences I decided to only get carry out from this location. I go here often, Adam and Nadine are the best carry out staff -- I recommend asking for them!

Delicious breadsticks and food as usual! Always one of my favorite restaurants. Love the Andes as well.

OG to go is very efficient. I know you can order online, but I haven't tried that yet. I have called in my order twice and it has been ready when I get there. The temperature is just right and stays warm. The first time I got salad with my meal, and the second time I got soup. I think soup is the better option for take out.

Typical Olive Garden. The waitstaff was friendly enough and attentive. Nothing bad to say about this place as I enjoyed my meal. They are quick bringing your food during lunch hours.

  • Chris S.

My family and I enjoy dining at the Olive Garden in Ann Arbor. It's a relatively large restaurant, so they're always busy. The wait-staff is always working hard, however, there are times you could use another drink refill, or maybe the check a little sooner than they are able to accommodate. With this in mind, we always enjoy the food and friendly atmosphere.

Had a pretty good experience here on Sunday night. Entrées were just okay, but i absolutely loved the salad and the calamari! Our server, Kaleb, was very knowledgeable and helpful with the menu. Also, the manager was walking the floor and checking in with tables, which I always appreciate! We will dine here again soon.

Mmmmm so good. My husband and I always come out for the never ending pasta and everything is always delicious : ) Friendly wait staff and always a good experience.

This was my first visit to an Olive Garden. I went in with low expectations, and they were greatly exceeded! We had a short wait (10 minutes) for a table. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was fine. Not gourmet, but you don't come to a chain like this for gourmet food. It was served hot and was tasty. The best part is the price. Really, really cheap. Which is meaningless if the food is not good. But it was! I will never hesitate to visit another Olive Garden.

Mid afternoon dinner visit ala rushed. We were greeted quickly and sat quickly which is not the norm when I visit this chain. We were sat in the small dining room across from the bar which was fine although I guess I would have preferred the staff remove the carpet sweeper from my seat area than myself. Our server, Katlynn, then greeted us fairly quickly and offered soft drinks and water before trying for cocktails. We never were asked abut wanting wine, in fact our table wasn't set with wine glasses or suggestive bottle of wine. It was however outfitted with a digital device that serves multiple purposes. First for $1.99 you can play games? Really? Charge for games but offer free wifi? No thanks I'll use my phone and your free wifi. A guest could also use the device to enroll in the "e-club" in place or very menu options and specials. But after all that my skeptical side notices that you can page your server so that you can spend more money. This place can be packed, servers go through the motions and then learn by pages from tables where they might have to pay more attention. What a joke! At least 4 managers in the building during our visit and not one stopped by to welcome or thank us for coming in. We departed before Sunday diner rush and the management team was relaxing in the bar area. Too bad they weren't checking restrooms for cleanliness or the floors for sweeping etc. And before I forget one of these people needs to inventory the plate wear and increase inventory. Our salad was served with HOT plates for which Katlynn apologized but knew what she brought to the table having to touch them to bring to us. On our salad refill I would compare it to someone's leftovers. Lots of cabbage and croutons not much lettuce or dressing. My entree, braised beef tortellini, was wonderful. We got about halfway through our dinner when we were brought carry out boxes and our bill. When did selling desserts and liqueurs leave the experience of visiting this chain? I normally order some sort of sweet after an Italian dinner but I will not ask them to take my money the staff must sell me something and not by way of the silly device taking up valuable table space. Horrible idea and a poor experience

Amazing Yelp event where a variety of regular and seasonal menu items were enjoyed. Favs were Salmon Bruschetta and Apple Tuscan Bread pudding. The Limoncello Long Island is to die for! Chris, our waiter was passionate knowledgeable which made the experience better. Management (Rob and Kip) were very welcoming!

I don't have any problem with Olive Garden. It definitely is not great Italian dining, but then again, neither are any of the options in downtown Ann Arbor. The entrees aren't terrible, the desserts are usually pretty satisfying, and the service is usually fine. I'm a fan of bottomless salads. On Friday and Saturday evenings the wait for a table probably isn't worth it. All in all, this is a place I would reserve for lazy Monday or Tuesday evenings.

A visiting relative really wanted to go to Olive Garden....that's my only excuse for visiting. I was optimistic on arrival. No line out the door as I have seen before driving by. It's been at least 10 years since my last visit to an Olive Garden, so sort of expected at least a decent presentation on the food and atmosphere. Boy...was I disappointed. To the atmosphere, and I refer specifically to this location, I found it very bland unlike that from my memory of Olives Gardens way back.. Generic tables & chairs among drop-tile ceiling dining room. Looks like a nice cafeteria. On sitting, we were each handed not one...not two, but three...yes 3 menus each. The main menu tri-fold card, a second tri-fold menu of seasonal offerings...then a third tri-fold menu of their 2-for-$25 items. For six of us at a table, it was just a task at "menu management". I chose the so-called 'Chicken Abruzzi" ($15.49). It's off the Lighter Fare section...not on the 2nd or 3rd menu...but on the 1st menu. Described as "Tender, grilled chicken in a savory broth simmered with cannellini beans, fresh kale and garden vegetables". Okay...I like that. The end product was so-so. I love Kale, but as anyone that cooks with Kale knows, its a hardy leaf. The Kale here was quite underdone. Crunchy really. The broth wasn't savory. More bland and watery. Thank goodness for the grilled lemon as a squeeze lent some body to the dish. For a dish with a flourishing title of Chicken Abruzzi, I'd think the chicken itself was the main event, but no. It's more of a comdiment to a dish without any real character. Olive Garden must just grill up a couple hundred generic breasts of chicken each day on advance; slice them jnto about 6 pieces and use them through the day on anything 'chicken'. The same prepped (not so warm) chicken I had topping my "Chicken Abruzzi" showed up in three other dishes at the table. Of those other five dishes, the only one that caught a good review was of all things, the grilled New York Strip steak. Service was rare. Lots of empty glasses. Tables were full. Thanks Olive Garden. With this visit, I'm good for another 10 years or so of this chain. A solid two stars (and that's very generous).

It's an Olive Garden much like every other Olive Garden. I currently live in Hawaii, where we don't have an Olive Garden, so believe it or not, when we visited Michigan for our buddy's wedding, I wanted to hit up the garden for bottomless soup and salad. The bottomless soup and salad is a great deal. They also come with breadsticks and I always order alfredo sauce to dip my breadsticks in. My favorite part of this meal is the breadsticks and alfredo sauce. The zuppa toscana is my favorite soup on the menu. The chicken and gnocchi is also good as well as the pasta e fagioli. Those were the soups I missed the most, so those were the ones we munched on. The service was good, and the restaurant looked clean. The entrance to this Olive Garden was a bit hard to find. It is on the second level of this shopping center. Service was good, there was plenty of parking, and it satisfied my craving.

I went to the Ann Arbor Olive Garden for the Yelp event. I really enjoyed a variety of the new menu items that they offered. The appetizers, Seafood items and drinks were great. The waiter, Management were excellent. They were fun and informative. I go to Olive garden on occasion and I certainly plan on checking out some of these items. Especially the seafood combination with pasta. .

I had made reservations for yesterday (tuesday) for my siblings birthday, I havent been to olive garden since 2012, and all I can say is I WILL BE BACK! the pasta shrimp was soo good, the salad was fresh and the bread sticks were amazing we also had a salmon dish it was really good. I enjoyed my experience I did how ever have an issue with service when I walked in with one of the waitresses. But the manager who's name was rob fixed the issue within seconds I felt very comfortable afterwards. Our waiter Sebestian (if I spelled it right) was an AMAZING waiter, his recommendations where very good! His service was very good ill ask for him when I come again! I am very glad I chose to come to olive garden! Definitely 5 star restaurant!!

I've only had about one bad experience here, but I've been to this location probably 50 or so times, so I'd say it's not bad. They're a chain, so they vary in service, but I've had mostly good experiences here. The parking is fine, and the times I've gone I haven't had to wait too long for a table. The view from the back booths is pretty nice of the man made pond and the duckies that float around in it. It's conveniently located near I-94 and Briarwood Mall. I know that Olive Gardens get pretty bad reviews here on Yelp due to the foodie/indie crowds that are on here, but I love it. I wouldn't say that when I'm there, I'm family... but the food is always pretty good, and when they have their soup, salad and breadsticks lunch special.. it's a great deal.

I used to love Olive Garden then I found better places to eat... the service is okay and their food is okay... the only reason I end up here is because of family... for some odd reason, they like coming here... and when I do come here, I only get their Soup and Salad... yeah, soup out of the can, heated and served... YUM ^_____^ Also, why is it that when you order the soup and salad lunch, they only bring one or the other? It's called 'Soup and Salad', not 'Soup OR Salad'... the service is hit or miss... the last time I was there, they didn't check in on us often... but since it was group of 10, they were guaranteed tip... not worth the 18% gratitude they received.

I love this restaurant! I've been there twice and the service is so nice that I don't even want to leave! They provide unlimited breadsticks, which are my favorite! The soup and salad come with the any main dish that you order. The view is nice too. If you come early and happen to sit by the window, you can even enjoy the pond view.

If you want a quick dinner and don't mind the noise level, it's not a bad place. they keep your drinks full and especially if you order alcohol. Those poor servers have quotas to meet. Service is friendly and the is good. Pretty clean there as well.

  • Miriam S.

Wow...what a place. The food is good and if there is anything wrong, they are more than gracious in making it right. Today was an outstanding experience. I walked out smiling because not only did they address the issue of my soup without enough content, they made it right within seconds. And the gracious and most solicitous server Alexis, made sure I had some very hearty rendition of the soup to take home. I hope when you go there you get Alexis to take care of you. She is the best. And the manager??????He is outstanding. He is all over the restaurant making sure you are satisfied. Clone him!!!!! Watching the ducks swimming by the window completed a great eating experience. My husband and I left smiling.

I had a pretty bad experience here about 5 years ago, but I thought I'd give it another try. Went with a friend to do the unlimited pasta bowl for lunch on a Sunday. Needless to say, it was quite busy, but there was little wait time. I was seated near the back, in a quiet section away from the large parties and groups which was nice. Sebastian was our server and he was very courteous. He brought me breadsticks while I waited for my friend and checked on me to see if I needed a refill on my tea as well. The meal itself was good-- the chicken & gnocchi soup was the right temperature and the gnocchi was soft, unlike other times I've been there. Often times, I'll get this soup as my main dish because it's so tasty. The spaghetti and meat sauce was also cooked well, though extremely hot. We got plenty of breadsticks throughout the meal, but quite a few were overcooked and dry. Overall the meal was good but did not blow me away. A nice, inexpensive option for lunch with friends.

Had a reservation for 6:30, this was a large party so we wanted to make sure we wouldn't have to wait since this is a busy time for any restaurant. We showed up and they told us the tables are being prepared right now. Only 25 mins later after I complained were we seated. After being seated we waited another 15 mins to be greeted by our staff. Because it was a large party she told us the 3 names of the 3 servers who would be helping us (only saw 2 the entire meal). They gave a smaller menu for large parties as I am sure it is easier on the kitchen, we were fine with this. Only by the time the pasta got there (about 50 mins from us being seated) no one was hungry because the salad and bread sticks had been settled in our stomachs for about 20 mins while we waited. Afterwards the menu said everyone was to get ice cream but I think the waiters just wanted to get rid of us because they made no mention to dessert or our ice cream. One of the girls mentioned it as we were leaving and I heard the server say "oh yeah, oh well". I think I can skip this place for the next 100 years

This particular Olive Garden location is very middle of the road. It's a box of chocolates type of place where you're really not sure what you're going to get. I've had great service (attentive, pleasant, helpful) and very poor service (brusque, disappearing, unbending) at different times. I've had great food (soft, fresh, flavorful breadsticks, fagioli chock full of substance, well cooked pasta in good quantity) and awful food (hard, stale, flavorless breadsticks, broth instead of soup, overdone mushy pasta). You may ask why we keep going back? One of the reasons is that it is a reasonably priced family option. Mostly it is a combination of nostalgia and hope that this will be the 'right' time. Either that or I haven't done enough gambling lately. Thankfully the consistency appears better recently. Our last 3 visits have been at least decent. For what you get, I'll take that. One warning though is that this well known name remains a hot spot for visiting parents of college students so the wait can be very long, especially on weekends. Make sure to call ahead.

  • Tom P.

The breadsticks were just bland white bread, a little overdone with some salt or something. The salad is pretty bad too, just a bunch of iceberg lettuce. I ordered the chicken parmesan which comes with a side of spaghetti. The spaghetti just wasn't very good, the chicken was ok, but still not great. Chicken was a bit overdone too with barely any cheese. Basically, this place kind of sucks.

  • Nick H.

Yeah, yeah, it's a chain. But when you look at quantity, price, and quality, I think Olive Garden does a good job. It's not the best Italian you'll ever have, but I always leave full and think the food is good for a random weeknight out. Plus, the tacky Italianate decor I find amusing, just like paying 25 cents for a sample of wine. Has anyone else noticed that the chairs are super comfortable and have awesome wheels? I have! Here's what I don't like - their service. It is not good. I usually go between 8-10pm. It's not busy, but the servers seem to mentally-check out. They are not prompt and can be, at times, downright dismissive. And policies about paying to change from a regular to Caesar salad varies from server to server. I just never feel like they actually give a rat's ass that I'm there spending my money. I do like the Steak Gorgonzola Pasta, and the Seafood Portofino. Their salads and Zuppa Toscana are good as well.

  • Mae S.

I read somewhere that this chain's menu was designed by interviews with focus groups of pure and innocent Americans. The point of this market research was to learn what the American diner THOUGHT an Italian restaraunt was like. Not what it might be like in any part of Italy (or even Little Italy in, say, Chicago or wherever). Their goal was to meet expectations, presumably expectations derived from half a century of Chef Boy-Ar-Dee's commercials and Godfather movies. If you eat here you'll never be surprised by what you get! Which is mainly tons and tons of calories served the way the gangsters in the movies liked to eat them just before they were gunned down by clever rivals.

This is just another meh restaurant to me. Not completely horrible but not what I would ever pick either. My husband really likes it but frankly his palette was honed on years of spaghetti-os, hamburger helper and dinty moore so take it with a grain of salt. I am always ordering a limoncello lemonade to start off my meal, but honestly that drink is the single best thing they serve here. Heck I could drink three and skip the food. Honestly there are no bad mixed drinks at the Olive Garden, I have tried a lot so I can tell you that with some authority. The limocello lemonade is the top of the happy heap though. From the appetizer menu, we had some disgusting fried lasagne here one night but on another night the smoked mozzarella fonduta wasn't bad. I love their big bowl of salad and they always bring me extra olives at no charge so that is a big highlight to any meal here. the breadsticks are decent when they are more cooked and a bit crisp in my opinion. I always send them back if they are super doughy. As far as entrees I find sticking with the basics works best. The capellini pomodoro will do in a pinch. The spaghetti and meatballs won't bowl you over but its decently ok. The shrimp primavera was reasonably appealing one night. The chianti braised short ribs were fairly horrific, too chewy and don't get me started on what they deem risotto. Likewise I would not be delving into anything in a cream sauce as it tastes jarred. I was even unimpressed with the Zeppoli, even with caramel sauce as well as the standard chocolate dip sauce. When you can mess up doughnuts for me it kinda pisses me off really. The other desserts I have had forkfuls of are similarly a waste of time. So if you are in the mood for fun mixed drinks and a bottomless basic salad stop in, otherwise I'd skip it. Unfortunately for me at least once or twice a year someone will drag me here.

I'm not usualy a poster when it comes to Yelp, I read a lot of reviews and make my decisions based off of the information, but felt I needed to update this restaurant since it hasn't been done in awhile...In a nutshell, my first and probably last experience with this restaurant was not good... We ordered drinks and an appetizer, the drinks came shortly, but no appetizer..Then the waitress comes back with our meals AND our appetizer, and apologizes for the appetizer coming out at the same time as the dinner...We barely touch the appetizer of course because now we want to eat our meals while they are hot, and we explain this to the waitress when she comes back and asks how things are. We let her know that we don't think we should have to pay for the appetizer as it came out late and we really didn't touch it. This is where it gets good folks... The waitress kneals down and says, "in the future when you are Olive Garden, this is how things are done." and then proceeds to explain how appetizers and meals work..WHAT??? I've been to plenty of Olive Gardens in my life, does she think that this is the first time??? She proceeded to offend both my wife and myself, and then says that she will speak to the manager and see if they can remove the appetizer from the bill...We said to her, if you come back with the appetizer on the bill, we would like to speak to your manager as well. Needless to say, she came back with the bill a-okay, but lost us as customers as she was very rude and offensive. We'll find somewhere else to eat Italian food in Ann Arbor, too many places to put up with service like that.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
